Producting an annual feast celebrating culture leaders in Los Angeles.
Saturnalia was a Roman mid-winter festival that took place on December 17, celebrating the Titan Saturn, and an age of peace and prosperity. During the festival, Romans exchanged gifts - usually small figurines made of wax or pottery called sigillaria. Clothing including the "synthesis", a brightly colored outfit that included red, purple, and gold, as well as the "pileus" (or pilleum), a conical felt cap that symbolized liberty. During the festival, wax tapers and torches were lit, and houses were decorated with wreaths and evergreen plants. During Saturnalia, it was common for Roman people to eat a lot of food, drink a lot of wine, play games, give each other gifts, sing and share stories. A common greeting was "Io Saturnalia".
